Several news sources are now reporting that Charlie Louvin, of the famous Louvin Brothers, has passed away at the age of 83. Lots is being written about him. Check out the New York Times obituary, the write-up at the Washington Post, or the notice over at the Riverfront Times in St. Louis, which includes a link to an interview with him from 2007. He’s one of the greatest writers of country music and an influence on one of my favorite musicians, Gram Parsons (and so an indirect influence on The Byrds, too. They even covered “I Like the Christian Life” for Sweetheart of the Rodeo).
Rest in peace, Charlie.
